The main airport in Johannesburg is known as OR Tambo (formerly as Jan Smuts). It is a very large airport and serves as the main gateway not only into South Africa, but also into Africa. Many of the main airlines in South Africa are based at Johannesburg Airport, namely SAA (South African Airways) which is the national flag carrier.
